The best student credit cards are most often those that offer rewards and benefits so when used responsibly you will actually be spending less or, if you prefer, getting more out of the money you are spending.

A student rewards credit card allows you to receive specific rewards or benefits offered by your credit card provider. There are many types of rewards suited to a variety of potential likes and dislikes of interested credit card users.

For those of you who like to travel there are many student credit cards out there that offer travel points when you spend money with your credit card. For example a few popular types of travel points are air miles points also known as reward miles points, and aeroplan miles points.

There are many types of student credit cards rewards that individual companies offer by partnering with your credit card provider. A good example is Shoppers Optimum credit cards which allow you to earn Shoppers Optimum points as your spend money with your credit card. Another example of this is Sony has a points system that can be earned with specific credit cards too for those of you who like Sony products.

Another popular rewards option which is one that I am fond of is called cash back. Many student credit cards offer something callled cash back which allows you to receive a certain percent of your spendings back as a reward. This essentially means you are getting a discount on your purchases so long as you pay off your bills on time so you don’t have to pay interest on your purchases. There may be different rules for each student credit card regarding how much you get back with cash back which will be explained in the card’s description. Often there are different amounts you will earn cashback for different types of purcahses like gas or groceries compared to say buying clothes or electronics. Some cards have tiers that you must meet requirements for to get a higher cash back percent. For example they may say you earn up to %1 cash back with the fineprint saying that you must spend $1000 or more in the year to reach that amount, which as a student is often not an issue. Obviously the lower tiers are still better than getting no cash back so this is a reward type that is good for anyone who will be responsible with their student rewards credit card.

Earning rewards with student credit cards with no fees really makes the choice of getting a credit card much more appealing to those who may have previously been agaisnt getting a credit card.
