Can a resident doctor date a nursing student?

Question by Craig: Can a resident doctor date a nursing student?
Would that be completely unprofessional (if we were only four years apart) or would it still be unprofessional?

For you doctors, would you bypass the opportunity if you really liked her? How would you show atleast some interest without being the least bit obvious to others?

In most hospital they have a Fraternization Claus, which simply means that if you are working in the hospital you can not date hospital staff.
Now I know that this does happen quite allot and as long as the relationship doesn’t show up in the work place you might get away with it. But remember that it’s going to be hard living with someone or dating them and making a relationship work, but it’s even harder with this at work, you will have other that might ogle you partner and you have to bite your tongue so as not to let on about the relationship.
And if you had a fight before breakfast and you really don’t want to see your partner all day, well if you work together tension will build.
So this would have to be a strong relationship, that you will almost have to hide at work.
Check with your Human resources Dept at work before you take a chance of losing your job.

If the nursing student is not an employee where you work, there’s nothing standing in your way. Otherwise, yes, it would probably be against HR policies, but if the two of you don’t work in the same area, and if both of you keep your mouths shut about dating, then it’s usually not an issue.

of course you can! just start talking with her. most docs marry other docs or nurses. good luck.
where i work, the CEO is married to a nurse that works at the same hospital.

I worked with a resident, who started dating my co-worker (fellow nurse). It was really obvious to everyone they were dating,,,,and it was annoying to everyone on our unit. They flirted shamelessly and it distracted them both from their duties. In the end, the relationship didn’t work, and then the work environment sucked for both of them until the resident finished his 4 years in the hospital. I would suggest if you really like this person, to not work together. It’s just too weird.
